How to Apply

The Research Grant Program began in 1997 out of a desire to fund research toward diagnoses, treatments, and cures for mitochondrial disease. Since the program began, the UMDF has funded more than $13.5 million of research.

Awarded funds are disbursed over the one, two, or three year life of the grant. Proposals are considered during a one-year grant cycle.

2015 Grant Cycle:

Please be advised the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation is working on improvements to the submission, review and administrative process for the UMDF Research Grants program. The improvements will enable us to increase the efficiency in the overall process, making it easier for applicants, reviewers and UMDF staff. We anticipate that the notices for LOI requests for the 2015 grant cycle will be emailed by early fall.   Thank you for your patience and we look forward to hearing from you!
