Patients, Families & General Public Awareness

Part of the mission of the UMDF is to educate physicians and researchers about mitochondrial disease and to foster a better understanding of the disease.  The UMDF exhibits at many medical conferences around the country as part of raising awareness.  We also bring physicians noted for their expertise in the field of mitochondrial diseases to various cities with our Grand Rounds Program.

The UMDF continues to develop advocacy modules that will help members communicate with and educate elected officials on the local, state and national level about mitochondrial diseases.  Our goal is to have a nationwide "Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week" designated for the third week of September (September 21-27, 2008) nationwide.
