The Research Grant Program began in 1997 out of a desire to fund research toward diagnoses, treatments, and cures for mitochondrial disease. Since the program began, the UMDF has funded over $6 million of research.

Awarded funds are disbursed over the one, two, or three year life of the grant. Proposals are considered during a one-year grant cycle.

Letters of Intent deadline
Early January 2010 LOI decision letters mailed; DO NOT contact UMDF for results
Mid-February 2010 Solicited proposals due
July 2010 Projects funded
