Aubrey is nearly three years old and was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease when she was ten months old. Her body cannot process carbohydrates resulting in a limited high fat diet, known as the ketogenic diet. She is currently on 10 different medications to treat seizures, reflux and acid build up in her blood. She has severe developmental delays, low muscle tone and a visual impairment.

Every thirty minutes, a child is born who will develop a mitochondrial disease by age ten. In adulthood, research has consistently shown that mitochondrial dysfunction is at the core of many very common illnesses and chronic conditions. All proceeds from Aubrey's Cut-a-Thon will benefit the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
