Additional Resources
Living with mitochondrial disease can be a difficult road. The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation understand this and our staff has put together various resources to help make the journey a little easier.

Some mitochondrial disease specialists and clinics offer "second opinion services" for patients and families unable to travel to see the physician. For a fee, the specialist will review the patient's records and offer diagnostic and management recommendations. The following is a list of "second opinion services":

Cleveland Clinic remote second opinion service - Cleveland Clinic offers patients a ‘remote’ second opinion service right from the comfort of your own home. Cleveland Clinic experts review your medical records and diagnostic tests and render an opinion that includes treatment options or alternatives and recommendations regarding future therapeutic considerations. Both Dr. Bruce Cohen and Dr. Sumit Parikh are listed as eConsultants. Patients or parents can obtain a formal opinion without making a trip to Cleveland. Virtual Medical Practice - Dr Fran Kendall is an expert in Mitochondrial Disorders with decades of experience. VMP offers a host of remote services to Mito patients and while the benefits of a second opinion can never be foretold, there have been a number of remote patients that we have worked with that avoided very expensive and invasive procedures simply by following Dr Kendall’s suggestions to take a step wise approach to their testing. Neurometabolic and Mitochondrial Clinic - Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, Houston, TX - Dr. Mary Kay Koenig will review your child's medical records and make recommendations about his/her diagnosis and management. For more information, click here.
