Awareness Week

Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week is celebrated globally to educate and increase awareness about mitochondrial disease. It takes place every year during the third week of September. Awareness Week 2016  is  September 18-24th. During this week, affected individuals, their families, friends, co-workers and fellow students join together to sponsor a variety of events to promote outreach and education about mitochondrial disease and the broader impact of mitochondrial dysfunction on human health.  Tell your story in your community.

Speak to community groups and organizations.
An easy way for you to spread awareness is to schedule a speaking engagement before a community organization. You will have the opportunity to tell your story, educate the audience about mitochondrial disease and dysfunction, and share with them the progress that UMDF has made.  If this is something of interest to you, contact the UMDF at 888-317-8633 for tools and information.

Set up an information booth in a mall, school, health fair or other community event.

See if you can get permission to set up a display that has information about mitochondrial disease and dysfunction. Use the opportunity to talk about your personal connection to the disease and how people can help the UMDF provide the ongoing research that accelerates us down the path towards a cure
.
