An early snowstorm along the east coast could not stop the success of the 2nd Cousins for A Cure on November 15, 2018.  The event was held at the Woodcrest Country Club in Cherry Hill, NJ. It featured information from speakers about progress in mitochondrial medicine, information about the disease, and included a silent and live auction.  The event, organized by Sherri and Alan Breslow and Debra and Ron Aronson, not only served as an educational forum for mitochondrial disease, but raised awareness and more than $190,000 for the “Logan Sloan Aronson Research Fund in Honor of Sydney Breslow.”

Sydney was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease at age eight. Sydney has battled against her physical and neurological difficulties that impact her balance, speech, vision, and walking. She is a 2015 Summa Cum Laude graduate from High Point University and just last year received her Master’s in Special Education.  Recently, testing revealed the gene that is causing Sydney’s mitochondrial disease. The Breslow family now plans to fight even harder to find a treatment and potential cure for others like Sydney with MEPAN Syndrome.

This year, Cousins for A Cure was held during the time of year that tragedy struck the Aronson and Breslow families. Sydney’s cousin, Logan, died on November 29, 2013. Logan served as an inspiration through his love for his family, his friends and life!  His parents, Debra and Ron, established a research fund in memory of their beloved son and in honor of Sydney.

The “Cousins for a Cure” gala continues to grow in size and donations — which would have delighted Logan.
