Materials you will need for your meetings at your Congressional Office
Meeting Talking Points
This three page document walks you through your planned meeting.
This document contains the following:
– Background information on mitochondrial disease
– How to tell your personal connection to mitochondrial disease
– How to ask for co-sponsorship for H.R. 5062
– How to ask for co-sponsorship for H.R. 5115
– And, if your Congressman/Woman is not a member of the Congressional Mitochondrial Disease Caucus, details on how to invite them to join.
LEAVE BEHIND #1
Letter of Support from UMDF for H.R. 5062
When asking for support for H.R. 5062, which is also called the ‘Advancing Access to Precision Medicine Act’, please provide this letter from UMDF that indicates that this is important legislation we support. You should hand this to the person you are meeting with as a ‘leave behind’.
LEAVE BEHIND #2
Invitation to join the Congressional Mitochondrial Disease Caucus
IMPORTANT: For those of you who are meeting with the following offices:
– Rep. Doug Collins
– Rep. Erik Paulsen
– Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick
– Rep. Thomas MacArthur
– Rep. Brendan Boyle
You do not need to print and take this as they are already members. You do need to personallly ‘thank’ them for the leadership on mitochondrial disease through their participation as a member of the Congressional Mitochondrial Disease Caucus.
Everyone else should download the invitation and your Congressman/Woman to join and leave this instructional document behind for them.

Materials you will need for meetings with your two U.S. Senators
Meeting Talking Points for your Two Senate Meetings
You can download one copy of this and use it for both our your meetings. the document is very similar to the Congressional talking points. However, you ask for your Senators is that they support Senator Bob Casey’s ‘Medical Nutrition Equity Act’ or S. 1194.
NOTE: If you are scheduled to meet with Senator Casey’s Office, you do not need to ask for support of S. 1194. Your meeting is more aimed as updating the office on mitochondrial disease, your personal connection, and to ‘thank’ Senator Casey for being a leader on issues that affect our community — because he has!
