Before the pandemic, telehealth coverage was limited in scope. However, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Congress expanded coverage to encourage broad adoption of telehealth for the duration of the public health emergency.  Accordingly, we have seen an exponential increase in telehealth. Uptake of telehealth is likely to persist. The main question is how to integrate this modality into the healthcare system to achieve promised goals and improvements for mitochondrial disease patients and other complex patient groups that have profoundly benefited from the service during the pandemic.
