A Legacy of Hope

Leave a Lasting Legacy Through Planned Giving

Leaving a legacy towards a cure is a gift that costs nothing during your lifetime. There are many ways to plan an estate or legacy gift to help advance UMDF’s mission.

Living Wills and Trusts

Making a bequest in your will or trust is one of the most common ways to remember the UMDF. A bequest can take the form of a lump sum amount, a percentage or remainder of an estate or a gift of stocks or other assets. There may be some bequest restrictions for specific UMDF programs, such as research, so simply contact UMDF for assistance.

Here are some helpful examples of bequest language:

Bequest of Cash

“I give and bequeath to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation the sum of $10,000 to be used for the general purposes of the Foundation.”

Bequest of a Percent of the Estate

“I give and bequeath to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation 20% of my estate to be used for the general purposes of the Foundation.”

Contingent Bequest

“In the event that any of the above named beneficiaries shall not survive me, or shall die during the administration of my estate within ninety (90) days from the date of my death, or as a result of a common disaster, then I give and bequeath that beneficiary’s share of my estate to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation to be used for the general purposes of the Foundation.”

Residuary Bequest

“I give and bequeath to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to be used for the general purposes of the Foundation.”

Charitable Gift Annuities

Annuities, usually cash or stock, enables you to support UMDF while receiving a tax deduction and fixed flow of income from UMDF for the rest of your life. Payments will depend upon your age at the time of donation.

Gift Planning Professionals

UMDF has gift planning professionals who can provide additional information and answer any questions. This service is complementary, and you are not obligated for making an inquiry. Please contact our Development Department today or download our brochure.

Beneficiary Designations

By including UMDF as a beneficiary, we will directly receive the designated proceeds. This allows you to make a substantial gift that is often larger than what you could afford during your lifetime. You can designate UMDF as the primary or contingent beneficiary for your 401(K), IRA or life insurance.
