Walk Your Way With Kamaria’s Krew

The Satcher family from Arlington, TX, are committed to finding a cure and effective treatments for mitochondrial disease. Since 2017, they have participated in the Energy for Life Walk and 5K in Dallas, TX. It is important they not let their efforts be sidetracked by the pandemic and will continue to field a team in the EFL Walk/Run Your Way event this year. Christina and Kwasi’s daughter, Kamaria, 17, has Kearns-Sayre syndrome (KSS). KSS is a form of mitochondrial disease that affects vision and could cause muscle weakness, heart disease, hearing loss, or endocrine conditions like diabetes or hypoparathyroidism. The Satcher’s team is Kamaria’s Krew. The family likes to keep it fun and healthy for those who sign up to raise money for the Walk/Run Your Way event.

“Our team members issue challenges to their friends/family through texts,” Christina said.  “Head2Toe Fitness Studio gave $25 fitness/nutrition plans, valued at over $200, to those who donated $25 or more to Kamaria’s Krew.”  They also invite family and friends to hang out after the event in a local park for a picnic. “It’s a way to get some fresh air and socialize after walking/running,” Christina said. To date, the Satchers raised $41,074 over the years towards their goal of funding the research that may help Kamaria. They are not stopping, with plans currently in process for a major fundraising effort later this year.
